Foxtail Flats is a 170-megawatt solar energy project, paired with 80 megawatts of new battery energy storage. The project will be located on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation, state land, and private land about 10 miles northwest of Farmington, New Mexico. Foxtail Flats will provide clean energy via a power purchase agreement with Los Alamos County Utilities, and the project represents a portion of DESRI’s planned development of up to 300 megawatts each of solar and battery capacity in this project footprint.
When it begins operations in 2026, the project is expected to produce major environmental benefits with minimal impacts:
- Clean energy generation with zero carbon emissions
- Safeguards to protect cultural areas and other sensitive sites
- Permanent controls for stormwater and erosion
